Bonnie Miller Represents MacKillop College at the prestigious National Schools Constitutional Convention

MacKillop College is proud to celebrate the achievement of Year 12 student Bonnie Miller, who was selected to attend the prestigious 30th National Schools Constitutional Convention (NSCC) in Canberra from March 25 to March 27, 2025. Bonnie’s selection is a testament to her academic excellence and passion for civics and citizenship, as only 120 students from across Australia were chosen through a highly competitive process.

The NSCC, a flagship event of the Australian Government’s Civics and Citizenship Education program, provides senior students with the opportunity to explore the Australian Constitution and engage in discussions about democracy and governance. This year’s theme, “Revisiting Sections 51ii and 90 to Reimagine Australia’s Fiscal Federalism,” challenged participants to consider how constitutional frameworks can balance national priorities with regional economic opportunities.

During the three-day event, Bonnie joined other outstanding students in workshops, debates, and a mock referendum under the guidance of esteemed legal experts such as Emeritus Professor Clement Macintyre and Professor Anne Twomey. The program also included keynote presentations, a reception hosted by government officials, and a tour of the Museum of Australian Democracy.

Bonnie’s participation in this national event highlights her dedication to understanding Australia’s democratic processes and constitutional law. Her achievement will be formally recognised at the next school assembly in May, where the MacKillop College community will celebrate this accomplishment.

Congratulations to Bonnie for representing MacKillop College with distinction on the national stage!
